SSG Jerry Thornton, a native Kentuckian, arrived in Vietnam in 1966 to serve as a telephone lineman in the 2/32 field artillery. He would also serve in HQ 2/32. He also served temporary duty with MACV as a radio operator in the MARS (Military Affiliate Radio System) program. Some years later, SSG Thornton would join the KYARNG ( Kentucky Army National Guard) with HHD 198th MP Battalion and would deploy during the Gulf War with the 223rd MP Company. This unit would assist in operation of a P.O.W. compound that would process a large number of prisoners taken during the war.
Mr. Thornton continues to serve through his local AMVETS Clarence "Joe" Aubry Post 129, (in Taylorsville, Ky), Chapter 61 of AMVETS Riders, and with the PGR (Patriot Guard Riders) of Kentucky.
